Some good news on borders this week.
Indonesia is now permitting entry and offshore e-visa applications for those who are vaccinated. Plans for the future include opening further to foreigners in November once vaccination rates reach 70%. (Their rate of fully vaccinated residents is at 16% today). In Macau, starting 20 September, it is planned to permit non-resident to enter from Hong Kong, provided they have remained in Hong Kong the previous 21 days and obtain permission. Covid test within 24 hours and 14 days quarantine will still be required, followed by 7 days of additional health monitoring. Thailand also plans to open borders to foreigners in certain locations beyond the Phuket “Sandbox” scheme starting October 1. As of today, plans are to open Bangkok and Chiang Mai to vaccinated travelers.
While great progress continues to be made in vaccination programs, several locations have extended local measures including: Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
