Tightened Local Restriction Most Locations

Rising cases and the threat posed by the Delta variant, which devastated India most recently, have caused several locations to tighten local measures.  Australia has placed four major cities under lockdown, including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Darwin.  Cambodia has closed high-risk businesses and schools in Phnom Penh.  Lockdowns have also been announced, extended, or enhanced in Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

The past 10 days have seen increases in daily case counts in Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Myanmar, Cambodia, Korea, Vietnam and Australia.

Some border information has been revised.  Hong Kong has suspended flights from the UK and barred entry to arrivals or those who have spent more than 2 hours in the UK.  Taiwan will now require a Covid PCR test for all arrivals and two more tests before the end of quarantine.

Vaccinations continue to provide some relief. For example, Korea has clarified its program for fully-vaccinated travelers to forgo the 14-day quarantine. In addition, the Philippines will now permit residents vaccinated at home and all others vaccinated outside and who have remained in “green countries” for the previous 14 days to a shortened 7-day quarantine.
